"America Is Not Fertile Ground For Producing Jihadists"...I Beg To Differ!

I stumbled onto this Article in the Christian Science Monitor with the headline, "Radical Islam Finds U.S. to be Sterile Ground". I nearly choked when I read the following...
"Home-grown" terror cells remain a concern of US law officers, who cite several disrupted plots since 9/11. But the suspects' unsophisticated planning and tiny numbers have led some security analysts to conclude that America, for all its imperfections, is not fertile ground for producing jihadist terrorists.

It's impossible to pinpoint the factors that produce home-grown terrorists, analysts say. But it's also impossible to ignore the stark contrast between the lives of Muslims in European countries where bombings have occurred and those of Muslims in America.

"What we have here among Muslim-Americans is a very conservative success ethic," says John Zogby, president of Zogby International in Utica, N.Y., whose polling firm has surveyed the Muslim-American community. "People come to this country and they like it. They don't view it as the belly of the beast. With very few exceptions, you don't see the bitter enclaves that you have in Europe."

I find the whole concept laughable on an idealistic level and extremely dangerous on a national security level. You don't need me to tell you this is B.S., just think about the country you live in. No one really wants to be American we are all guilty of that, this is the country where 10th generation Americans drive around with foreign flags on their rear view mirror, the country where everyone cheers for their ancestral nation during World Cup instead of the country they live in. This is the country where cities are still segregated into several different ethnic groups, personally I'm down the street from the Ukrainian Village, 2 miles from China town, half a block from Little Italy, across the highway from Greek Town and every shop owner in Arabic town (which overlaps over Korea town) knows my face.

England, a victim of homegrown terror is quite different, immigrants have almost totally assimilated into British society. If you question how true that is just observe British media and entertainment, you will be amazed at the number of Indian and Pakistani faces you'll see, broadcasters, actors and other T.V. personalities.

Don't let these kinds of articles and Zogby polling fool you, America is full of American born Muslims who dream of turning the U.S. into a Muslim controlled nation, complete with Islamic law, trust me I grew up around many of them. I was there in the Mosques, before 9/11 listening to the cries for Jihad and I was there after 9/11 in the Universities when Sheiks preached peace and love out of their own fear, they were wolves in sheep's clothing. Let me assure you that the faces in the Mosque with me, listening to hate speech were young men, born in America and when America suffers its first attack from the hands of home grown jihadists, it will be men like these who are blowing themselves up.

Are the majority of American born Muslims jihadist candidates? No, certainly not, don't come away thinking that! However is the U.S. safe from home grown terror? Far from it.

*Tomorrow I will post, "How To Detect An American Terrorist"

BTW- I love the guy with the Dale Earnhardt jacket wearing the traditional Arab scarf in the picture above.

Speak for yourself DB, i don't have any other flag on my car except Old Glory. I do understand what you're saying, and i agree that these polls are idiotic. I don't know why zogby thinks anyone would tell him "yeah i plan on blowing myself up next week"?? i have had a problem with this for years.
My standard answer to people when they ask "what nationality are you?" is American.

Having lived in NYC for a long time, where you can walk a block in one direction and go from little italy to china town, i understand that a lot of people are not like me, but that's the big cities. It's not as pervasive in the rest of the country.

There can be no fifty-fifty Americanism in this country. There is room here for only 100 percent. Americanism, only for those who are Americans and nothing else.

Solid article D.B. and I agree with most of it.

I can only speak for myself and I know that my views may not be held by the majority of ethnic Americans, or even "regular" Americans. But you would be hard pressed to find anyone as "American" as me or my family!

My brother and I are wildly passionate about this country. And this is coming from a first generation Egyptian American. The love I have for this country is immeasurable. I love everything about it and I don't even think there's a second country out there that is close to what America has to offer.

With that said, nothing drives me more insane then these people who leave the poverty and violence of their home countries and then come to America with all of her glorious freedoms and opportunity and then want to destroy it or turn it into their country that they just fled from!!!

Does that make any sense to anyone?? If you don't want to whole-heartedly embrace Amrica then why on God's green earth did you come here?

I will never understand it. If you don't love or at least appreciate America then get the F out!! Give that visa to someone who WILL love and cherish this great country! I can think of millions in Egypt that could make good use of that visa.

Just like that recent story about a couple of Muslim Brotherhood dirtbag terrorists that were barred from entering the U.S....THANK GOD! These people should NEVER be allowed to enter!!! They're turning OUR freedoms and openess against us to destroy our country. WTF?!! What a sad joke. Get the hell out and STAY out.

BTW - I can't stand that Zogby guy. I think he's an idiot. And I rooted for the U.S. during the World Cup :) since Egypt was nowhere to be seen. Come on Mido, get your act together.

What do you think of this video, DB?

Who's Afraid of Islam? Episode 3 of 3

It's the last segment of a documentary that seeks to answer the question of why Europe is having so much trouble integrtaing muslims. Their conclusion (at minute 24 in the video) is that Europe should turn to America for answers.

I tend to think they are right. My dentist is an Iranian muslim, many of my co-workers for the last 10 years (at least) have been muslims, and some of my neighbors are muslims. We may have enclaves of radical Islamists here in teh US but I'd guess they are the exception, not the rule.

By the way... 10th generation immigrants with foreign flags? Who would that be!? There are only 14 generations between me and the Mayflower in 1620! Ten generations would be early 1700s, who was immigrating to the US then and why the hell are they so unpatriotic!?

Just kidding about the unpatriotic. There's a difference between putting a mexican flag on your car antenna or bumber sticker, and burning an American flag in the street!

America Fuck Yeah!

Hey Egypter, i couldn't agree more!
DB is of course being honest, he says they were preaching jihad in his mosque and i believe him, but like you i don't understand why?

Is there an answer to that? DB can you tell me why? Egypter? I just don't understand it.

Craig- Certainly radical islam in the U.S. is not the norm however I struggle to determine if its because there are those who are bitter towards the U.S. and unwilling to do something about it or if they have truly failed to develop radical beliefs. What I have commonly found is most young men under the age of 30 do have radical views but are unwilling to do anything about it. Unfortunately its much more appealing to listen to those who are "extreme" in whatever they say. If I wasnt so moderate and wanted to be EXTREME it would deffinately appeal to many, unfortunately the world is not that simple, issues are more complex.

Rhino/Pete- Why preach Jihad in the Mosque? Hate for the U.S. started a very long time ago. During the Clinton administration it was over Somalia, and Iraq sanctions, Palestine and even Chechniya. Any place where muslims are "oppressed" by the hands of the U.S. is a reason for Jihad. You have to understand that Nationalism is a sin in Islam so Muslims are united all over the world by Islam alone. Therefore any issue facing muslims in other places is a potential issue for all muslims. make sense?
