I have often thought that young muslim men join terror groups because its their form of gangs. All immigrant groups in the states have crime rings. Since Muslims are not supposed to sell drugs and prostitutes, they form a different sort of gang.
I would say its a similar phenomenon. Youth in america join gangs because home life sucks and unemployment is high, the gang gives them a purpose in life, something to do. The terror groups are the same, life sucks, unemployment is high and some sickos are telling them, join our cause. It gives them purpose until it consumes every detail of life and they are willing to die for it, Just like the gangs in America.
