Disturbing Cause For Soldiers Suicide.

While sorting through my Iraq news resources I stumbled unto a disturbing story of a British soldier
who committed suicide before he could be deployed to Iraq.

Pvt. Jason Chelsea, 19, an infantryman from Wigan, England, swallowed a handful of pills and slit his wrists when he found out he would be sent to Iraq. It took him 4 days to die but before he could succomb on his death bed he told his parents, "I can't go out there and shoot at young children", "I don't care what side they are on. I can't do it"

Chelsea's mother told reporters her son was warned in basic training that children could be used as suicide bombers. She added that her son had been bullied during basic training which led to a previous suicide attempt and a drinking problem which partially contributed to her sons death.

The Ministry of Defense is investigating the death as well as the circumstances experienced during Chelsea's basic training.

Well, it's too bad there aren't more guys who don't want to shoot at children or blow them up.

Egyptian Magician, you know how glad I am to see you return. I thought you Died or something! Maybe I am over reacting, maybe you met a girl or maybe your lost in a corn field somewhere, maybe your bald and the shine on your head attracted an alien space craft which abducted you for the past couple months and you just got back?!

This guy put Israeli soldiers to shame? i hope you're kidding.
Anyway, he killed himself because he was mentally disturbed. the only people intentionally killing children are the terrorists.

Rhino,

Your comment shows lack of information of what Israeli soldiers are doing. Israeli soldiers are terrorists and they do kill palestinian children. Only those who are willing to find out can simply google and learn.

Ignorance is not a bliss in some cases.

Actualy I saw a news story where an Israeli soldier was leaving Lebanon and was very depressed and saying that he had done things he had never thought he would do and that he had to live with himself over. His commander was waving at him from the side off camera telling him to not talk, but he said what he had to say, anyway.

But let me speak again. It shows the difference between the Israelis, because the Arabs would not feel bad for killing American, Israeli or Iraqi children, they would dance in the streets and celebrate by killing more children.

Lets be very realistic, it is nonsensical to put ANYONE on a moral pedistal when it comes to war. Civilians die on a very regular basis during war, women, children, old people, whole families. Rape is VERY common, straight out murder during urban war fare between soldiers and civilians is very common on both sides, lets not act like the Arab terrorists invented killing children. I know soldiers who were in Iraq, I've heard thier stories and you dont want to know what our soldiers have done to women and children, unintentionally and intentionally. In a perfect world it would be great to imagine that only the bad guys do it but unfortunately its not the case.

Twosret,

I'm sure there are some incidents of IDF forces killing children, it is war and it is terrible. But to call the Israeli's terrorists is ridiculous. If you believe that then you are the one who is misinformed.

d.b. i really don't like where you're going with that statement. are u saying you know some soldiers who have admitted to rape and murder? If you are you should speak out to the authorities and name names so that it can be stopped and the perpetrators of these crimes can be punished. if that's not what you're saying then you should clarify because that's what i'm seeing.

Allow me to Clarify. I have friends who came back from Iraq who did not admit to crimes themselves but told me enough stories suggesting, rape, murder etc is common and to a certain extent ignored. Another veteran I met last year told me enough stories to make me sick and if that wasnt enough he had pictures. While he was in Iraq he took over 1000 pictures, some of the most amazing pictures I have ever seen. Unfortunately the less scenic and not beautiful pictures were just of dead bodies, many of them civilians. One story that will always stick in my mind is about a rocket being used to kill a pregnant woman.

The Europeans in the 17th century gave us a very strange view of war. They fought a gentleman's war where soldiers in distinct uniforms would meet and kill each other and wound each other horribly, then go back to town and party all night and meet for battle again the next day. There were rules and civilians were to be kept out of it for the most part. There were exceptions, the Brits raped and pillaged at Badajoz. but that "civilized kind of war is not the norm. As a woman I feel that many men are DNA programed to fight. If they want to fight it out over resources and territory so be it. I just want them to not get the rest of us killed. many men join the military to travel to a place where they can engage in behavior considered uncivilized and unacceptable at home. This includes rape and prostitution and often the treating of woman as slaves. Most often the civilians of the occupied country are the victims. However, the Arab tactic is to directly attack and kill as many civilians as possible, whenever and wherever possible. They avoid directly engaging with other armies, hide among civlilians and let the civlilians take the brunt of the damage and death. This is a new and different style of fighting and plays also to the media.
